TRAVELING

I am a highly qualified teacher who loves to bring the world to my students.  I believe that a child's social and emotional development is as important as his/her academic development.  When students feel safe and included, they will meet high expectations.  Therefore, I seek to develop a strong community in my classroom where students are encouraged to ask questions, learn from each other, and take on new responsibilities.

My professional training began at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.  In May of 2004, I graduated with a B.A. in Middle Childhood Education with an emphasis in math and social studies.  Additionally, I earned a Certificate of Leadership and was inducted into the education and history honor societies.

I currently teach at Ann Arbor Learning Community (AALC), a public school academy in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  It is here that I teach 6-8th grade social studies in a multi-age classroom.  I have coordinated the school's National History Day program through which six of my students have become national qualifiers.  This is also my first year serving as a school co-leader.  In addition to these leadership roles, I design the school yearbook and lead a year-end middle school trip.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy traveling, photography, reading, and sailing.  These often come together in my love for the outdoors, and undoubtedly also help shape me as an educator.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

PERSONAL JOYS

PROFESSIONAL JOYS

I hope to travel to all 50 states, every continent and each of the major U.S. national parks.  One of my favorite national parks that I have visited is Zion National Park.  If my travels do not include the outdoors, they likely include anything historical, bookstores, and good food and coffee.

It's not uncommon to find me with a camera in my hand, especially when I am traveling and enjoying the outdoors.  In 2010, two of my photos were featured in a calendar for the Les Cheneaux Islands in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

PHOTOGRAPHY

I grew up vacationing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which is where my love for the water grew from a young age.  I love to be on the water, especially if it involves a boat!  Most recently, I have enjoyed sailing with a local Ensign fleet during the summer.
